Bahir Dar University is a university in Bahir Dar Town, the capital of the Amhara National Regional State in Ethiopia. The University is a combination of two smaller institutes formed earlier, after the departments were gradually raised to a degree level starting from 1996. The two institutions were integrated into Bahir Dar University following the Council of Ministers regulation.
The University was inaugurated on May 6, 2000, and the Polytechnic Institute and the Teachers College became the Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Education, respectively. In addition, the university added two more faculties, that of Business and Economics and the faculty of Law, which were established in 2001 and 2003 respectively. Bahir Dar University was officially inaugurated in May 2001.

Sida's Swedish development cooperation is part of a global cooperation in which Sweden is one of many international participants. In order to carry out its work Sida cooperates with Swedish government agencies, organisations and associations and international bodies like the UN, the EU and the World Bank.
It is the responsibility of each country to adopt its own strategies for economic development and for combating poverty. This strategy forms the basis for the cooperation strategy that Sweden and respective countries or regions form together. In order to implement strategies and carry out its work Sida cooperates with a large number of organisations, associations, agencies, companies and cooperatives.
A total of 16 Swedish organisations currently have framework agreements with Sida (link), which means, for example, that they contribute 10 percent of the costs of joint projects. This includes organisations such as Africa Groups of Sweden, Diakonia, the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation, Save the Children Sweden, the Church of Sweden and the World Wildlife Fund for nature.
In addition, Sida also has agreements with a number of Swedish government agencies. The aim is for their expertise and experience to be of use in partner countries. Sida also cooperates with other countries’ development aid agencies. In addition, Sida cooperates with international agencies like the UN, the EU and the World Bank.

The UN Millennium Development Goals, aimed at eradicating poverty and global diseases, are a challenge to engineering education and research. KTH is actively involved in many research projects in developing countries. A centre for research into natural disasters, KTH Disaster Resilience Centre (KTH DIRECT), was established in 2005 and focuses on risk analysis and reconstruction.SPIDER, the Swedish centre for the implementation of IT in developing countries, is also located at KTH.
There is ample experience of student driven projects aimed at developing IT tools in rural areas, as well as establishing and expanding university networks. KTH is also involved in capacity building projects at many universities in developing countries. Students at KTH are able to gain experience from research projects in developing countries through the Sida-financed Linnaeus-Palme and MFS Programmes (Sida/Asdi = Swedish international development cooperation agency).Demand for high quality education is growing in developing countries and KTH is committed to playing its part in this process.

The Environmental Protection, Land Administration and Use Authority (EPLAUA) in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia is responsible for the development and implementation of the Land Administration System (LAS) there, activities financed by Amhara Region and the Swedish International Development A-gency (SIDA). The Swedish firm Orgut Consulting provides consultant services on technical issues.
The regional government fully supports the implementation of the system and distribution of the ‘Book of Possession’ to all farmers is ongoing; more than 1.3 million households have already got their ‘Book of Possession right’. Experts working for USAID, the World Bank, FAO and Hernando de Soto have reviewed the approach, with positive outcomes.
