ELAA Workshop

The establishment of the Ethiopian Land Administrators Association (ELAA) workshop.

Bahir Dar University's, Institute of Land Administration successfuly conducted a two-day workshop on the Establishment of Ethiopian Land Administration Association (ELAA), between October 2-3, 2009. The draft constitution was presented, commented and adopted during the workshop and will be submitted to the concerned public body for registration. The major invited participants were the Environmental Protection and Land Administration institutions, institutions of Works and Urban Development, Municipalities, higher education institutions, and Non- Governmental Organizations having a stake in land. There were about 50 participants in the workshop.

 

Papers were presented on such themes as the international experience in Surveyors’ Associations, the need to establish such an association in Ethiopia, and the legal and policy issues relating to land in Ethiopia. Prof. Hans Mattsson (Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden) addressed the relationship between national land associations and the International Federation of Surveyors (FIG). Dr. Firew Tegegne, Director of the Institute of Land Administration has spoken on the teaching and research activities of the Institute.

 

After the workshop the Executive Body of the Association was nominated. Accordingly, Dr. Tadesse Amsalu (ANRS President’s Office), Dr. Solomon Bekure (ELAP), Mr. Melkamu Belachew (ILA), Mr. Bayeh Tiruneh (EPLAUB), and Mr. Seid Hussein (ILA) were assigned as President, V/President, Secretary, Finance Head and Treasurer of the Association respectively. Three Auditors are yet to be appointed.
