The Institute of Land Administration (ILA) emphasizes on the students’ learning process, combining theoretical knowledge with practical skills. Modern surveying equipment have been purchased such as 20 Leica TCR1205+R400 total stations, 10 Leica TCR1201+R400 total stations, 5 Leica GX1230 GG GPS RTK-Receivers and 10 Leica Classic Digital Levels 50 leveling instruments with the necessary accessories and software for downloading data from the instruments to the computers.

The lectures in the surveying courses are followed by field exercises for data collection and computer labs for downloading and processing the field data.

The computer labs are conducted in a computer laboratory where currently 42 workstations and a server are networked, protected by a UPS system.
Commercial GIS and imaging software (ArcGIS, GEOMATICA and Erdas) are used in the Remote Sensing, Photogrammetry & Digital Mapping and GIS courses. Purchase of additional surveying equipment, photogrammetric workstations and computer equipment and software for additional laboratories are planned.

Vehicles, 2 Toyota Land Cruisers, 1 Toyota Hilux doublecab and 1 Toyota minibus have been purchased and delivered and a 60 seats bus is purchased but not yet delivered. The purchase of additional two 60 seats buses are planned.

 

New campus under construction 

                      The new campus under construction.

A new campus, which ILA will share with the School of Law, is under construction. The first phase includes 5 classroom buildings with totally 60 classrooms and 10 discussion rooms/computer labs, dormitories for 2916 students and cafeteria. The construction of the campus started in December 2008. The design of the second phase, which includes administration building, library, computer centre and lecture halls, is completed. Sida is partly financing the construction as well as furniture and equipment for the ILA buildings within the new campus.
